I'm hesitant to publish it...But here we go...
.
I've had a few questions / comments lately about my hair, which is an absolute mess at the moment!
The colour is Hypnotic Red by Schwartzkoff, it's just cheap supermarket stuff, nothing special. I've been dying it myself for just over a year now - mostly due to budget constraints.
The colour turns out un-evenly because I have a lot of colour build up in my hair. The roots are dark because of my natural re-growth, the middle brighter because the previous red was much more vibrant and the ends dark because they were previously black.
.
I've been meaning to get it professionally done for a while now, but because I'm not taking a wage I can't really justify spending $200 - $300 that I don't have; then there's the maintenance that follows.
.
Anyway, I digress, I've added some photo's below so you can see what it was like so you get a better understanding that when I say it's boring & flat, it really is; especially compared to how it was...

I've been dying my hair various shades of red for over 10 years, it's always been vibrant up until now. I have a wee bit of an identity crisis when I think about it...I've always been "The Redhead" but these days I'm not. Not really.
.
Sometime soon I'll change it again, what to? No idea.
.
Are you as precious about your hair as I am about mine?

I've dyed my hair from its natural red a few times - once a cheap temporary chocolate brown, which looked great, and another time I had it dark purple (due to an unfortunate incident in Cambodia). I've also had it blonde (which I did not suit)and darker red. Each time I dye it, I miss my natural colour, so I plan to keep it natural from now on.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting how we can get an identity from our hair color. I am definitely as precious about mine as it sounds like you are of yours!
ReplyDeleteLOVE these! All the cuts, all the colors! You are just so pretty, no matter what color your hair is.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

Not sure if this is any consolation but I still think your hair looks good!
ReplyDeletelove your hair colour!
ReplyDeleteI'm so attached to my long curly hair. I really love red hair. I wish I could pull of as well as you.
ReplyDeleteYou look so good as a red head! I'm a hair stylist so if you have any hair questions feel free to ask me.
ReplyDeleteI love your hair color, don't chance it!
ReplyDeleteYou look beautiful.
I dye my hair since I was 12. Sometimes blond, sometimes black and everything in between ^^
at the moment I dye my hair darkbrown, maybe I should try black again...
I think your hair looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI recently went from dyed red to blond. It took two trips to the hairdressers - 7 hours and about £300. Hair is so expensive!

My hair is all colours due to at home kits & toners. I need to go to a salon but cant stomach the prices !
ReplyDeleteSo ill have to stick with uneven hair !
as a dyes redhead i know where your coming from! i think it suits you wonderfully though, gorgeous! i plan to go a few 'wild colours' whilst i'm at uni x
ReplyDeleteI still think the red suits you, and is such a lovely colour. The bob really suits you as well! You make it look really different to how everyone else wears it. xx
ReplyDeleteUgh funny you should mention hair as im totally having a crisis at the moment! I want to dye my hair dark brown to see what it would look like but im too scared and god knows how much time/money it would take to get it blond again :( I think you suit the bright red and the darker that you have now :)
ReplyDeleteoh yes, I spend a fair bit on my hair I must say! My blonde roots are re-done every 5 weeks for about £80, so that can be a bit pricey and my special conditioner is about £25 but it lasts for about two months....yep I think taking care of ones hair is important. You look beautiful as a redhead, you should keep it if youn like it - it is so striking! You have such a pretty face though so I'm sure you could wear every colour xx
ReplyDeleteI think your hair looks great red, but if you feel you want a change I think you should go for it!
ReplyDeleteI too am always reluctant for a hair change - it's been pretty much the same for my whole life - and there are always tons of reasons not to change.
But it's only hair, it grows back and what's the worst that could happen, right?
Awwww I really love the cute red bob, it really suits you and you are very pretty you should definately look at the camera more often! x
ReplyDeleteMy sister is like that, too. She's been dying her hair since 14 or so. She's been every color but always goes back to red.
ReplyDeleteMaybe your hair is rebelling? IDK I've only dyed my hair under 10 times. I won't ever do it again, though.
I have big curly hair, and it defines me. In a culture of blow outs and flat ironing I am definitely "The girl with the curly hair." It used to bother me, but I live in 90%+ humidity. I have grown to love it.
ReplyDeleteYou are so brave dying it that colour, it looks great. I am awful when it comes to my hair, I can barely face having layers put it and when I went for highlights I was psycho for a week after with the shock!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your sweet comments.

Red is so hard, but its all worth it. Its a beautiful color on you. I finally got my highlights in red, love it but its hard because its fades so fast.
ReplyDeleteIt really looks lovely on you.
I have been dying my hair black for 10 years or so, that seems to always be my fall back color. :)
My hair is like my babyI always keep it dark and rich. But whenever I see someone like yourself with vibrant red it makes me totally jealous.

I think you've got fab hair! I like that it's got that ombre feel, with the red and black fading in and out - and given that you haven't shelled out big bucks for it, more power to you!
ReplyDeleteThat said, the red bob is very cute and striking - the combination of the cut and colour works really well. I know what you mean about hair & identity - it's bizarre just how different a haircut or colour change can make you feel, particularly if it's a key part of your overall look. Even if it's not, often when I'm going through big life upheavals I change my hair to signify a new approach or direction... it's all a bit esoteric given that it's only the stuff that grows out of our heads, but it's true!
I love the intensity of your hair color! I always change mine. Recently I've been into the end being lighter than the top, almost like really really wide roots. Very Alexa Chung, although mine weren't as striking as hers!

That's funny because I hate that my hair is red. Hence the fact that I call it "auburn". I like the last photo. That shade is good on you.
ReplyDeleteRed suits you. But you have the kind of skin color that would probably work with a lot of colors. I'm amazingly boring with hair color. Recently I had a few blond streaks done, the first color in 10 years.
ReplyDeleteI like both your old and new color. My hair has been everything from platinum blonde (for 7 years, and it is still recovering), to the reddish color that it is now.
ReplyDeleteI can't afford the salon anymore for color, so I have to settle for the home dye job as well. I want vibrant coppery red hair, like Joan from Mad Men, but I think my base color is too dark. I am trying Feria #74 Deep Cooper next week-we'll see.....
yay! a hair color post on that hair of yours! love it! your fascination has been with red, mine have been with blonde highlights. the past year or so it's been leaning towards red because of that "phoenix rising from the ashes" comment i'd made. :o)
ReplyDeletei tried to highlight my own hair recently and failed miserably, but in it's odd, uneven way, it's growing on me. i should try an entire layer of a solid red like you. why do salons have to charge an arm and a leg for such services!?! boooooo
