Casual Comfort?

Today was a good day. I spent the afternoon op-shopping (or Thrifting if you'd prefer to call it that) with Sarah from Haus of Sarah Rachel. We went to 3 shops and found some cheap & cheerful treasures.

The term "casual comfort" I really don't identify with.

I don't do casual.

My mother constantly informs me that I'm "over dressed" and you know what? I am far more comfortable in a nice dress than I am in these jeans!

I haven't owned or worn jeans in about a decade, mostly because I have never managed to find a pair that a) fit and b) flatter my figure.

I found these a couple of weeks ago and when they actually fit I decided that since they were only $19 I'd give them a go.

I've worn them once.

My friends were shocked. "Some thing's wrong...you're wearing jeans! You don't wear jeans!"

So whilst I now own jeans I'm not likely to wear them terribly often, they're stiff and awkward - give me a dress any day!

Same Skirt, Different Day

As you've no doubt noticed I am a dress girl, I do own a couple of skirts but this is by far my favourite.

Oh, I almost forgot. I went to see the movie "The Avengers" last night. It was incredible! The hulk and Iron Man are definitely my favourite characters.

That's something you may not know about me - I love comic book based movies. The X-men, Hell Boy, Iron Man, The Hulk and the Batman series are among my favourites.

That's right, I have the same taste in movies as a 10 year old boy.

Secondhand Sunday 18

After a rather unsuccessful trip to the market last week I more than made up for it this week!

I may have gone a wee bit overboard....

I brought these 8 tea cup & saucer sets and a couple of tee shirts. I couldn't help myself, they were all such good finds at great prices.

The saucer from one of the Royal Albert sets (bottom one) was broken and repaired - they've done a remarkable job of it. It makes me like it even more that it has a war wound. We live in a through away society today, if something breaks we through it out and get a new one, I love that someone took the time to make it as good as new again.

All in all a very successful day, however, I really do have to contain myself, my mis-matching china collection is starting to get a wee bit out of control.

All I need now is a milk jug, sugar bowl, a couple of serving plates, a cake stand and some sandwich side plates...I think I have a problem.

Location, Location, Location

Usually I take my outfit shots with a tripod & a timer but today I spent the day with Mum and while we were out I got her to take a couple of photos since it'd be dark when we got home.

She struggles with technology at the best of times. Each time she went to actually take the shot she'd turn it off by mistake...

I find taking my own photos is far easier and I don't feel like as much of a dork when no-one is watching me!

Sun Shine Dreaming

When I woke up this morning it was cold, dark, miserable and raining. Needless to say I hit the snooze button a few more times than I should have.

And you know what? It turned out to be a beautiful, hot, sunny day.

Sometimes a not so great day can turn out to be a really nice day after all.

Brilliant Berry

If someone told you that something was in a "Berry" colour what would you expect that to be? Red? Pink? Purple? Burgundy?

I had no idea but when I discovered it was this colour I was pleasantly surprised and even though I already have the black version of this dress I decided I had to have the "berry" too. I love the cut and the lady like length.

If you like something would you buy it in more than one colour? Or is that overkill?

Inspiration Station

Well, we've got an estimate on when we'll be able to move into our new house...we're looking at July.

I was hoping it would be sooner but with so many houses here that are in desperate need of repair (due to earthquake damage) it's really not that long in the wide scheme of things.

So whilst my man has begun to think about the building details and practical stuff I've started collecting ideas for the decor & interior details. Far more fun.

We're looking at investing in better quality furniture when we finally do move so I'm starting to get a clear idea of what I like.

Do you have a plan when it comes to your home or do you just go with the flow?

Red Obession

Well there's no prize for guessing what my favourite colour is, for obvious reasons.

Today was a beautiful sunny day so why not wear a bright red sun dress??

Secondhand Sunday 17

Today I went to the Riccarton Market like I usually do on a Sunday and for the first time in a long time I didn't find any treasures so I settled on a cinnamon scone and a flat white.

I found a really nice cup & saucer trio that I loved but it was 1 out of 5 the same and the grumpy old bat wouldn't sell it separately even though she would have made more money out of it in the long run. She wanted $25 for the lot and I offered her $10 for one trio (so she could still sell the remaining 4 for the $25) and she still said no. Might try my luck again if they're there next week...

Anyway, enough of my grumbling.

I found this yellow tea cup & saucer at the Salvation Army shop a few weeks ago for the bargain price of $3 so naturally I had to add it to my collection.
