I don't know about you but I'm powerless to resist a good sale.

I brought this bag last week, it was only $10 and I brought the bangle for $4. That's like the price of lunch! How was I supposed to walk away from that?

Perhaps I should stop going into shops in the first place...

It's official, we are half way through 2012 already. We've had the shortest day (or longest day depending on which hemisphere you live in)

Is it just me or does that scare you too?

I brought this silver cake fork set a few weeks ago at the Riccarton Market for $15, which I thought was a pretty good buy for silver.

Peplum Bandwagon

I've officially jumped back on the peplum bandwagon.

I have a couple of dresses that I brought a couple of years back but they're packed away in boxes so when this top was on special for $35 (down from $50) I couldn't help myself.

Here's a question for you : do you only post outfit photos that you deem to be "blog worthy" ?

If so how do you decide what's "blog worthy" and what's not??

Personally that never even enters my head, I take pictures of what I'm wearing. Sometimes I like what I wore, sometimes I don't but that's the beauty of blogging isn't it? Maybe that's just me?

Today has been another lazy Sunday, I have to work next Sunday so I'm making the most of having today off.

I brought these plates and saucers a few weeks ago from the Riccarton Market, they were too cute to pass up.

Do you work weekends??? Or are you one of the lucky people who work Monday to Friday?

The Good, The Bad & The Ugly

It's way past my bedtime, it's almost 1am here and whilst my body wants to sleep my mind has other ideas, too many of them it would seem.

Today has been a funny day. It's been great and it's been not so great at the same time.

Today was good because I had a couple of meetings at work that were really positive & one of my colleges told me I was "very good at my job and very approachable" which has to be one of the nicest compliments I've had in a while!

Today was not so great because I've finally had to face up to something I've been avoiding for the past few months...

3 months ago I dyed my hair, as I've done literally hundreds of times before, only this time I had a horrendous allergic reaction. I haven't dyed my hair since, I've been too scared but now I have to face the truth.

I am 26 years old and I'm over 40% grey, yes kids that's right, over 40% of my hair is grey. I have a hair crayon to colour in the greys!

I've had 2 patch tests done over the past 2 days and I've had a horrible reaction to both :(
Which means that I'm actually allergic to the pigment (I've tried both organic & ammonia free dyes with no success).
ie. I can not ever dye my hair again, if the dye touches my scalp I'm in big trouble.

So what can I do? I'll have to get foils, it won't be 100% coverage but in the wide scheme of things it's really not the end of the world.

Beware : You can develop an allergic reaction at any time with no warning! It's very common with hair dye.

Have you started to see the effects of aging?

Do you have any allergies?

I haven't really got a lot to say today, it's been another lazy day. I have no intention of doing anything much. My plan is to read my book (Angela's Ashes) drink tea and go to my Maori classed this evening, that's about it.

Have you had a busy start to the week or are you taking it easy like me?

Allow my to introduce the latest addition to my ever increasing collection of mis-matching china. I brought all 3 pieces separately, the plate & saucer were $3 each at the Riccarton Market a few weeks ago and I found the cup on Trade Me for $4. The cup doesn't match as well as I'd hoped but I still like it.

Today has been a very quiet Sunday, we went to a friends birthday last night, all I can say is that I'm glad I was the sober driver. My man has been feeling very sorry for himself all day!

Most of the snow has melted in town now but we still have plenty at home, the forecast is for sleet tomorrow so hopefully the weather man is wrong...

What have you been up to today?

Would you prefer matching or mis-matching china?

An Education in Climate

The snow was frozen solid this morning, it was about as hard as rock but now that the sun has come out it's slowly beginning to melt.

I've had a couple of questions about the weather here in NZ lately.

Yes it does snow here, it quite commonly snows down south but here in Christchurch it only really happens about once a year and it doesn't last terribly long. The further north you go the less likely it is to get that cold, I've never heard of snow in Auckland (not proper snow anyway! If it doesn't settle it doesn't count)

The thing that makes it such an issue here is that there are thousands of people living in homes that A) have major earthquake damage (ie. missing walls etc) or B) don't have proper insulation or a decent heat source.

Up until about 5 years ago it was pretty uncommon to have insulation unless you lived in a new house, even now most older homes only have insulation in the celling.

Most homes now have a "heat pump" which is essentially an air-conditioner that we run in reverse to heat rather than cool. Crazy huh?

NZ typically isn't that cold, it's just that we don't heat our homes or buildings as well as other countries.

As a general guideline if it's under 10 degrees it's "freezing", if it's over 15 degrees it's "a nice day" and if it's over 20 degrees there will be someone whinging about it being "too hot".

Personally, I prefer warmer weather - if I could live somewhere that was always above 20 degrees, I would love that, but hey it's not going to happen any time soon...hopefully one day.

Guest Post - Feathers & Freckles

019

A couple of of weeks ago I had an email from Megan from Feathers & Freckles asking what I would wear if I was to go to her wedding and I decided that I'd wear this. Something feminine but not too showy. You can head over & read my guest post if you're interested.

If you haven't already discovered Megan's Blog then you're missing out. She has the most incredible sense of humour and an amazing sense of style, she reminds me of a red-haired version of Zooey Deschanel.

P.s Yes, these photos where taken months ago - it is freezing here now & I don't think she'd be impressed with me if I were to show up wearing gumboots & thermals!

White Winter Wonderland

Just in case anyone was wondering, it really is winter here in NZ.

This morning I woke up to discover that it had just started snowing, we now have about a foot of settled snow...

We haven't had power all day (I live rurally) it's only just come back on, it's amazing how much we rely on things like electricity & running water, it's really rather unpleasant without modern luxuries!
